PANEL DISCUSSION
A Rich Heritage!: The Creative Impact of North Carolina's African
American History and Culure
Synopsis: The panel discussion will provide a vibrant discussion around the
above subject, a heritage which includes: thousands of U.S. Colored Troops;
the birth of Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC); the
Greensboro Sit-ins; an internationally-relevant jazz tradition; eleven Historically
Black Colleges and Universities, and much more.
Panel Members: Harry Harrison, Chair, African American Heritage
Commission; Dr. Freddie Parker, Member of the African American Heritage
Commission; Linda Carlisle, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of
Cultural Resources; and Bamidele Demerson of the International Civl Rights
Center & Museum.
Moderators: Michelle Lanier and Jamilla Hawkins of the African American
Heritage Commission.
