1619 Making of America Summit

The summit will include 3 days of panels, discussions, a theater production of “Gem of the Ocean,” and a tour of relevant sites about the first arrival of West Central Africans to the Virginia colony. The tour takes visitors on a journey beginning at Point Comfort in Hampton to Historic Jamestown where a live archaeological dig is being conducted where the earliest named African woman, “Angelo,” lived in the early 1620s. The themes discussed during the summit include: Reimagining Representations of People of Color, America’s Future: Citizenship and the Law in America, America’s Narrative Reframed, and Finding America’s Roots.
