Annual observance of the UNESCO-declared International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and Its Abolition at the Key West African Cemetery, where 295 African refugees, rescued from three captured American slave ships in 1860 were buried, to honor their memory and that of all who endured the Middle Passage/Maafa, with traditional Native American, African and other prayers and blessings, brief lectures, performances, Open-mic “Village Talk, and placement of flower offerings at the oceanfront.
