Faith Journeys in the Black Experience, 1619-2019

The Virginia Council of Churches and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University will convene a scholarly conference on the religious context of Virginia 1619, its impact on people of color, and the evolution of a religious and culturally diverse United States in the 21st century. An estimated 14 scholars from throughout the United States will present papers, which will be edited and published by the University of Virginia Press. Students and the general public will be invited to attend the event. A public event is being planned to highlight the influence and importance of music on the Black experience.
