MAAFA Commemoration Ritual

The 24th Annual MAAFA Commemoration, San Francisco Bay Area is a Sunrise ceremony where guests procession through the Doors of No Return. We gather about 5-5:30 AM PT. We finish about 11 AM. There is drumming, dance, prayers, libations to African Ancestors of the Middle Passage. People of African descent are invited to come, wear white, bring their children, instruments, flowers for the offering, vegan or vegetarian foods to share. If anyone needs a wheelchair, it has to be reserved at least 5 days in advance from the Golden Gate Recreation Area. There is a free chartered bus from the East Bay hosted by Downtown TAY and HHREC. To RSVP call (510) 499-9349. The Departure is 4:45 am at The Grocery Outlet on Broadway in Oakland. Return is 12 noon.
