Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to building the minor, successful candidates will teach one course per semester, lead faculty in curriculum development, cultivate and carry out events and yearly programming for students and faculty, complete programmatic assessments, work with faculty across campus to grow interdisciplinary research and teaching, and work with the Dean’s Office to promote the African American Studies program. The Director will also be involved in hiring core faculty members for the program and will work with their faculty to recruit affiliates throughout the university.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
PHD in Humanities, Social Science or related field and experience working in or with an African American Studies program. Must have a successful record of scholarship related to the study of African or African American culture, history, or other relevant research and must be willing to teach one course per semester within the African American Studies minor. Must be tenured. We seek a tenured professor for this position but advanced associates with tenure may be considered. Rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
 
ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS): No

Preferred Qualifications:
Primary consideration will be given to candidates who have a tenured home in a Humanities, Social Science, or related field and who have experience working in or with African American Studies programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
We seek a candidate who can lead faculty from multiple disciplines in offering an interdisciplinary minor in African American Studies.
