On behalf of America 250-Ohio Commission Co-Chairs Michael B. Coleman and Doug Preisse, we regret to inform you that our fellow America 250-Ohio Commission member Dr. John Fleming, passed away on Friday.
He had been battling cancer and will be missed. As many of you may know, John had an enormous impact not just here in Ohio, but elsewhere, throughout his long career in service to people, museums, and the broad field of history. He was the founding director of the National Afro-American Museum & Cultural Center (NAAMCC) in Wilberforce. His lengthy list of accomplishments will no doubt be summarized in his obituary. Suffice it to say, he was a tremendous scholar whose contributions will far outlast his 81 years on this Earth.
We were told a memorial service in his honor will be planned at the NAAMCC. As we learn more, we will be sure to share it with you all.
