The Critical Race & Ethnic Studies Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position in Black Studies at the early Associate Professor (with tenure) or advanced Assistant Professor level (tenure track). We seek an interdisciplinary scholar in any area of Black Studies who has a commitment to programmatic and curricular development and supervision at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and community engagement. We especially welcome applications from scholars whose approach to Black Studies pushes the boundaries of the fields they inhabit; asks provocative questions; and contests norms of knowledge production. The hire will be expected to teach in and contribute to the development of the new, undergraduate Black Studies minor. Like the Black Studies minor, the Critical Race & Ethnic Studies Program (CRES) was created through student activism. Though the CRES program is located in the Humanities Division, the candidate’s departmental affiliation is open to departments in the Arts Division and Social Sciences Division, in addition to departments in the Humanities Division.
Full consideration will be given to applications completed by January 6, 2020. Applications received after this date will be considered only if the position has not been filled.
