The IRIS Department at Grand Valley State University invites applications for an assistant professor with specialization in political ecology, science and technology studies, and/or ethical practice studies with a social justice, social innovation, or transformative approach to start August 2020.

This position is intended to complement existing strengths in a vibrant department that practices and understands interdisciplinary studies as drawing from multiple disciplinary locations, working across and for cultural communities, and engaging with varied methodological and theoretical frameworks.

Candidates must have: demonstrated teaching expertise at the undergraduate level, including writing intensive classes and training on ethical research practices; demonstrated interdisciplinary teaching that connects to disciplines like the physical or life sciences, literature, philosophy, writing/rhetoric, history, and/or the social sciences; demonstrated research experience and/or academic training in an interdisciplinary field of study such as political ecology, science and technology studies, and/or ethical practice studies with a social justice, social innovation, or transformative approach; experience working with and understanding of underrepresented and diverse populations as well as a commitment to social justice work within these populations; commitment to serving diverse communities of learners and teaching within GVSU’s General Education Program; strong potential for teaching excellence at both undergraduate and graduate levels; demonstrated commitment to collaborating with colleagues from diverse, disciplinary/interdisciplinary and field backgrounds on teaching and/or research; strong interest in hybrid and online teaching, as well as in traditional, face-to-face settings. A completed PhD or the equivalent in a relevant field by the time of appointment is required.
