FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Association of African American Museums Announces Second Virtual Conference
Washington, D.C. Mar. 10, 2021 – The Association of African American Museums (AAAM) announced today that the 2021 Association of African American Museum Conference will be held virtually. The conference is designed to provide networking opportunities for young museum professionals, professional development, and online learning. “Last year’s successful launch of the first virtual conference proved that despite our distance, we can still learn, grow, and network together virtually. Historically the AAAM conference is a family reunion of sorts for professionals of African and African American focused museums as well as a wide array of cultural institutions. Last year, we gathered and connected virtually and we all were safe, protected and healthy. We want to have that same outcome this year.” said Vedet Coleman-Robinson, Executive Director.
Registered participants will gain insight on a variety of topics surrounding the museum field from a range of museum professionals throughout the country with our conference and, plenary sessions. Important conversations were held last year in 2020 including AAAM pioneered Trauma Informed- Care for the museum field and we will continue to discuss this very important topic. Keeping in the tradition of our conference, we will have special guests for our keynote address and our evening receptions. The virtual option will allow registrants to be safe, empowered, and engaged while safe and healthy.
As one of the most requested options during the 2020 conference, the Virtual Speed Networking session will be on the 2021 line-up. Our goal is to enlighten, engage, and enhance the current slate of museum professionals that are looking to gain advice for their future endeavors.
AAAM will be sharing news about more details for the 2021 conference in the coming weeks. Please save the date, this year’s conference will be held August 4th through the 6th.
