The Nineteenth Street Baptist Church at 4606 16th Street, NW, Washington DC 20011, the oldest African-American Baptist church in the city, welcomes the distinguished Dr. Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham. She will be the speaker for the 10:00 AM morning worship service on February 11, 2018 for the Annual Black History Month Program, sponsored by the Helping Hand Club of the church.


Dr. Higginbotham is the National President of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. Additionally she is the Victor S. Thomas Professor of History and of African and African American Studies at Harvard University. She was presented the 2014 National Humanities Medal in 2015 by President Barack Obama at the White House. Dr. Higginbotham was named as one of the “Top 25 Women in Higher Education” by Diverse Magazine in that same year.
