A Special Conversation with Joyce Moore Turner

January 24 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm UTC-5

In the 60’s and 70’s, when many of us found it hard to move on from being Negroes, The Name Negro: Its Origin and Evil Use by Richard B. Moore helped us make the change quickly and permanently.

Join W. Paul Coates this Sunday, January 24th, 2021,  at 6 PM ET for a Special Conversation with Joyce Moore Turner, Richard B. Moore’s daughter, as they discuss her father’s life and work as a dedicated Caribbean Pan-African activist, and one of our early Black booksellers, bibliophiles and  collectors.

This study focuses on the exploitative nature of the word ”Negro.” Tracing its origins to the African slave trade, he shows how the label “Negro” was used to separate African descendants and to confirm their supposed inferiority.
