Join the National Park Service to celebrate Dr. Carter G. Woodson’s 149th birthday and legacy during an event at Dunbar High School. Featured guests include keynote speaker, Dr. Pero Dagbovie, the Finn Murphy Quartet, and the Kiamsha Youth Empowerment Organization.
The event will take place on Saturday, December 14 at 2 p.m. and will showcase the upcoming national theme for Black History Month, African Americans and Labor. The Finn Murphy Quartet will kick off the program with jazz standards by Duke Ellington and others from Woodson’s era in Washington, DC.
Immediately following the program, Eastern National Bookstore will be selling Woodson merchandise along with books by Dr. Pero Dagbovie. Cupcakes will be provided by the Kiamsha Youth Organization.
The event is free and open to the public. All visitors must go through metal detectors before entering the school. Weapons are prohibited, bags will be checked prior to entering.
