About Our Authors Study Club, Inc. (OASC) – www.oascla.org

Observing Black History ALL YEAR LONG is a vital part of honoring the legacy of Dr. Carter G. Woodson. The “Father” of Black History. What OASC and its parent organization ASALH do — the teaching of areas of Black History that has been legally banned in seven U.S. states as “history that makes people uncomfortable” – is to continue to present its both its annual month-long city-wide celebration, youth oratorical competition, Black History tour (virtually) in February; advocate for the teaching, preservation and discovery of Black History; support Black Authors; hold meetings throughout the year; promote cultural events, special Black History Speakers; reach out to youth, provide scholarships and more throughout the year. Members and those who share our vision and hope for an equitable vision are the lifeblood of OASC and represent our amalgamated HOPE for our future.

About Audacity To Hope Day

Audacity to Hope Day is celebrated each year on June 4th. It is a day for all Americans to recommit to their dreams with the “audacity to hope” that they can be achieved. On this day, we as Black and African Americans celebrate the resilient human spirit that has conquered many obstacles with hope and perseverance. It is also a day to celebrate movements and important landmarks in human history that have made the world a better place for us all. This is also a great day to celebrate personal victories achieved after overcoming challenging obstacles. A celebration of optimism and hope, Audacity To Hope Day anticipates a happy future for every single person! For OASC this day reaffirms our HOPE as a significant means of Black Resistance that has helped us defy the odds, to bring about a significant change in the world around us, to never give up, even in the face of the direst circumstances – finding joy in doing the impossible!

About the Hidden History Museum

The Hidden History Museum specializes in featuring untold Black History omitted from popular discourse. A brainchild and realization of activist and documentary film producer Tariq Nasheed, the was created as an extension of Nasheed’s documentary films. The museum holds a collection of rare artifacts, documents, artwork, and memorabilia from the Civil Rights movement to today’s Black Lives Matter movement. It features sections of Master Teachers, Black Inventors, Explorers, Rebel Leaders, and the History of Black Music. In addition, it features the history of West Coast hip-hop, and musical pioneers that have inspired some of today’s artists. Visitors can expect to interact with displays, a mobile app, virtual reality, and augmented reality experiences. The museum is free and open to the public Monday through Friday https://hiddenhistorymuseum.com/.

As the on-going assaults on democracy continue, OASC acknowledges that SEVEN states have OUTLAWED the TEACHING of BLACK HISTORY and at least 54 others have limited it in some form or fashion, and that we must encourage all to remain ever vigilant and committed to making sure our history, Black History is American History that enriches everyone! June 4th, Audacity to Hope Day is one way to infuse HOPE! As we celebrate and welcome the new members of the Our Authors Study Club, Inc. we also amplify and acknowledge the resilience of the human spirit as a community committed to improve where we live, work, worship and pray and support those in the fight in other parts of the country.
