MAAFA SERUDJ-TA: A Day of Remembrance and Healing will commemorate and honor those that lived and died in the MAAFA (African Holocaust) and celebrate those that struggled and sacrificed to restore MA’AT(truth, justice and righteousness).

MAAT Marketing and the Pan African Cultural Community are sponsoring the inaugural “MAAFA SERUDJ-TA: A Day of Remembrance and Healing” on Saturday, October 5, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. The purpose of memorializing the MAAFA is to pay homage to the Ancestors, acknowledge the lingering effects of slavery and racism and create a community dialogue in order to develop a healing program and process.

The day will consist of a MAAFA ceremony, premiere of the stage play/film “Maafa Serudj-Ta”, release of the music CD “MAAFA,” the unveiling of the Maafa Mobile Exhibit and a community presentation and discussion on the ill effects of slavery/racism and how to heal and move forward. The MAAFA ceremony will be at the South Lions Park at 8 a.m. All other events will take place at the Carver Library beginning at 12 p.m.
