Dr. Edna B. McKenzie, Along the James, Rappahannock and In Between: Exploring Virginia African American Genealogy Resources

Alonna Carter, historian for the Dr. Edna B. McKenzie Branch will give a presentation on her meticulous genealogical research on Black families involved in the Second Middle Passage, the interregional slave trade in America. The Second Middle Passage saw Virginia born African Americans being sold further south to Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi and Alabama as slave owners traveled to seek new prospects for the cotton plantations and other cash crops.
