"Mr. Hannibal B. Johnson graduated from Fort Smith (Arkansas) Northside High School, the University of Arkansas, and Harvard Law School. He is an author, attorney, and independent consultant. Johnson has taught at The University of Tulsa College of Law, Oklahoma State University, and The University of Oklahoma. He serves on the federal 400 Years of African-
American History Commission.

Attorney Johnson chaired the Education Committee for the 1921 #TulsaRaceMassacre Centennial Commission and served as local curator of its world-class history center, #GreenwoodRising. Johnson has held many other leadership positions on nonprofit organizations at the local,
state, and national levels. His ten books, including Black Wall Street 100: An American City Grapples With Its Historical Racial Trauma, chronicle the African American experience in
Oklahoma and its indelible impact on American history. Johnson’s play, Big Mama Speaks—A Tulsa Race Riot Survivor’s Story, was selected for the 2011 National Black Theatre Festival and has been staged in Caux. Switzerland. He has received numerous honors and awards for his work and community service."

Dr. Vanessa Northington Gamble joins us this afternoon, for our Plenary Session on health and wellness in the Black family!

"Vanessa Northington Gamble, MD, PhD is University Professor of Medical Humanities at the George Washington University. She is the first woman and first African American to hold this prestigious, endowed faculty position. She is also Professor of Medicine and Professor of Health Policy and American Studies. In addition, she is Adjunct Professor of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.

Throughout her career Dr. Gamble has worked to promote equity and justice in American medicine and public health. A physician, scholar, and activist, she is an internationally recognized expert on the history of race and American medicine, racial and ethnic disparities in health and health care, and bioethics. She is the author of several widely acclaimed publications on the history of race and racism in American medicine and has been a member of several national boards and committees. She chaired the committee that took the lead role in the successful campaign to obtain an apology in 1997 from President Clinton for the infamous United States Public Health Syphilis Study at Tuskegee. Dr. Gamble’s many honors include membership to the National Academy of Medicine, the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and an elected Fellowship with the Hastings Center."

Dr. Chanelle A. Jones joins us, tomorrow @ 12:30PM EST, for a special Plenary Session, "I Fear For My Life: They That Mourn". Sponsored by the 400 Years of African American History Commission

"Dr. Chenelle A. Jones is the Assistant Dean of Community Engagement, and Chair of the Public Safety Programs at Franklin University. She also oversees the Center for Public Safety and Cybersecurity Education (CPSCE), and the Global Center for Healthcare Education (GCHE) at Franklin University. Dr. Jones received her Ph.D. in the Administration of Justice from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. Her research interests include race and crime, policing, and juvenile delinquency. Dr. Jones currently serves as the National Director of Research for the Teen and Police Service (TAPS) Academy, a federally funded program designed to reduce social distance between police officers and youth. As the Director, she is responsible for establishing the research agenda, analyzing data, and serving as a consultant for best practices in improving relations between teens and the police. She has written numerous articles and book chapters on public perceptions of the police, race, and the administration of justice. She is also the co-editor of A Critical Analysis of Race and the Administration of Justice."

ABSTRACT
The Black family offers a rich tapestry of images for exploring the African American past and present, along with our Black music. Music of the African Diaspora unites the Black Family and affords opportunities to sing, perform, and feel our way Home. So, how can our exploration and conversations around Black music of the diaspora provide meaningful connections to how we view and nurture the Black Family? We propose that it is our music that reminds us of who we are and leads us Home, spiritually, metaphysically, and culturally. Furthermore, this supports the idea that there is no family without Home.
