This roundtable panel will discuss scholar Jarvis Givens’ 2021 Harvard University Press book, Fugitive Pedagogy: Carter G. Woodson and The Art of Black Teaching. The roundtable participants will offer a critical conversation on the African American intellectual tradition of teaching, while exploring what Givens calls “fugitive pedagogy” — a theory and practice amongst Black educators.
