Odell Ruffin’s Campaign 72

February 25, 2023 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm EST

On February 25, 2023, ASALH in partnership with the Multi-Media Training Institute (MMTI) is proud to host a special viewing of the play, “Odell Ruffin’s Campaign ‘72.” The play is based on the life of Shirley Chisholm.  General admission tickets to the play are $75.  For a slightly higher price ticket of $150, ticket holders will have the opportunity to enjoy food and socialize during a pre-play reception from 12:00- 1:15 p.m.  The play will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m.

The in-person matinee performance of “Odell Ruffin’s Campaign ‘72 is a new critically-praised play based on the life of Shirley Chisholm.  Chisholm defied expectations when she became the first Black woman to run a major campaign for President in 1972. The play will be presented in Washington, DC’s The Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), located at 1901 Mississippi Avenue, SE.  The matinee play will be followed by a dynamic discussion panel on what planners are calling “The Chisholm Effect.” “Odell Ruffin’s Campaign ‘72 is produced by the Multi-Media Training Institute, a DC-based non-profit training, and production company for young adults.

The theme for ASALH in 2023 is “Black Resistance,” and this unique presentation of Shirley Chisholm encapsulates the essence of a major focus of some of the struggles we as people of color continue to face, even today! The play is one of the activities closing out the month-long February 2023 Black History Month Festival.  We hope you will plan to attend many of our virtual events.
