Each December, the Greater Kansas City Black History Study Group, along with the 47 other branches of The Association for the Study of African American Life and History(ASALH) commemorate the birthday of Dr. Carter G. Woodson who was born on December 19, 1875, and is known as the “Father of Black History”.

Please join us for this special celebration, as we host our guest speaker, Dr. Margaret Bristow, a retired, tenured professor at Hampton University. As a long time language arts educator, Dr. Bristow has also held positions at a number of other institutions. Dr. Bristow will perform a dramatic skit illustrative of the life of Dr. Woodson. The audience will see how Woodson’s life and concerns still speak to us today, as they pertain to the Black family, identity, advancement of the race, and how best to teach our rich history.

Please join us on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at 3:00 p.m.
