Berea College, the alma mater of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, seeks a Department Chair of African and African American Studies. This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position beginning in August 2018 at the associate level or higher. The Department seeks a candidate with a record of exemplary teaching and an active scholarly agenda, along with academic leadership experience. Teaching responsibilities include an introductory course in African and African American Studies, a course on the African diaspora, an upper-division course in the area of the faculty member’s interests, and participation in the College’s General Education Program. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in African and African American Studies or a related field. Berea seeks faculty committed to excellence in teaching, invested in scholarship and their discipline, dedicated to mentoring students, and who are also supportive of Berea’s core mission.
