Beginning in 2007, the Network to Freedom joined with local partners to present an annual Underground Railroad training. These training opportunities bring together a mix of grass roots researchers, community advocates, site stewards, government officials, and scholars to explore the history of the Underground Railroad. Rotated to different parts of the country, the trainings highlight the unique history of various regions along with new research.

This year’s event, hosted by the National Park Service, National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom (NTF) Program, the Underground Railroad Consortium of New York State, the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area, Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center, and Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), will take place in Niagara Falls, New York, September 11-14, 2019.
