Event Cancellation: The James Weldon Johnson Branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) deeply regrets the cancellation of our annual membership reception scheduled for September 23, 2017, at the River Club.  The River Club experienced significant damage due to hurricane Irma and is temporally closed.   You will be notified when the event is rescheduled.  You may direct questions to George or Hazel Gillis at 904 714-0089 or hmcdowell@aol.com.

ASALH, James Weldon Johnson Branch Annual Membership Event/Branch Meeting  will be held on the evening of September 23, 2017 at the River. Club.  We are asking for your support in two ways.  First to purchase 1 ticket ($50.00) or more and secondly  to share the information with other people in your circle of influence including your church by posting of the flyer, posting on websites, etc.

The theme of the reception is “ A Crisis in Education.” The keynote speaker is the State Representative Tracie Davis and our program moderator will be former Senator Tony Hill.  We have many educational concerns nationwide and locally, like the future of public schools, closing of schools serving our children, funding, etc.  Rep. Davis is sponsoring a bill related to educational issues.  Let’s help to invite and inform as many people as we can for  a better future.   We are asking for ticket purchases to be made by Sept. 6, 2017.  Table purchases can also be requested (10 persons) for $500.00.

If you are not able to attend, we are asking you to commit to the purchase of a ticket which can be used to sponsor a student or program participant.  We need to work together to represent.  Please reach out to Hazel or George Gillis at (904) 472-9023.
