2020 Theme “African Americans and The Vote”
Omar Sabir, City Commissioner of Elections, City of Philadelphia was the keynote speaker. Commissioner Omar Sabir issued the charge to all attendees (Black History Month program 2. 8.2020) to tell people 4-6 times to vote. During this period of COVID-19, Stay at Home orders is a perfect time to go through your contact list and call as many folks as you can to register and then call again to vote.
The picture of the four girls in white are from the youth group Athletic Wrecking Crew, Tafari Nobles El. Director. Mr. El brings the dancers each year to the Black History Month program. Mr. El has taught the youth the history that informs their dances. The girl dancers were depicting the four girls killed on September 15, 1963, during Sunday morning services in the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama

March 24, 2017: The Association for the Study of African-American Life & History (ASALH), Philadelphia Chapter, received a Black History Month proclamation from City Council during its 5th Annual City Council African American History Month Luncheon. ASALH was founded by Carter G.Woodson in 1915. The Philadelphia chapter was established in 1929 by Judge Raymond Pace Alexander and Woodson.
