A candidate who is energetic, able to work with a wide array of partners, and knowledgeable about African American history to serve as Midwest Regional Manager for the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program.

Basic Requirement: This occupational series requires the applicant to possess an undergraduate degree in History or a closely related field of study (see Academic Background for History); PLUS a minimum of four (4) years of full-time professional experience applying the theories, methods, and practices of History that enables professional judgements to be made about the identification, evaluation, documentation, registration, or treatment of historic properties in the United States and its Territories; AND products and activities that demonstrate the successful application of acquired proficiencies in the discipline to the practice of historic preservation.

A graduate degree in History or a closely related field of study (see Academic Background for History); PLUS a minimum of two (2) years of full-time professional experience applying the theories, methods, and practices of History that enables professional judgements to be made about the identification, evaluation, documentation, registration, or treatment of historic properties in the United States and its Territories; AND products and activities that demonstrate the successful application of acquired proficiencies in the discipline to the practice of historic preservation.

To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Professional knowledge of American history, with particular emphasis on African American history, acquired through education or experience. Knowledge of professional research methods in history acquired through education and experience. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to work on cooperative projects with partners. . You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in History. Course work in fields other than those specified above may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in this position.
