Description: Roanoke College’s Fintel Library invites enthusiastic, energetic, creative, and collegial candidates to apply for the full-time position of Metadata & Content Services Librarian. As part of the Fintel Library team, the Metadata & Content Services Librarian will share responsibility for improving the quality of Library services, user satisfaction, and academic success through a proactive and collaborative approach. Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Metadata & Content Services Librarian will serve as the lead librarian for organization, description and processing of library resources, supervision of unit staff, and serve as depository coordinator. Fintel Library is a selective depository with a selection rate of approximately 20%. Fintel Library shares an integrated library system with Hollins University; the Metadata & Content Services Librarian will collaborate with Hollins University library staff to coordinate bibliographic activities.
The Metadata & Content Services Department Librarian will also share in the provision of instruction, reference and research services to users, and serve as subject liaison to assigned academic departments. Liaison responsibilities include promotion of library services, collaboration with students, faculty, and staff in the development, management, delivery, and assessment of the library’s digital and print collections for assigned subject areas. On a rotating basis, the Metadata & Content Services Librarian will provide evening reference service and weekend on-call coverage.
Candidates should be enthusiastic, self-driven, analytical and detail-oriented, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in helping students, faculty and staff to meet their resource, instruction and research needs.
• ALA-accredited MLS, MIS or equivalent advanced degree in library / information science
• Demonstrated knowledge of metadata schema, cataloging standards, and tools for bibliographic access and control
• Demonstrated experience with integrated library system software and discovery tools (e.g. Ex Libris Alma/Primo, EDS, Summon, WMS)
Preferred qualifications: Supervisory experience; experience working in an academic library; teaching experience.
