Personal vs. Public

Following the news about the November election, ASALH members must remain committed to our responsibilities as a 501(c)3 organization. With increased public interest comes greater scrutiny, and we must maintain a clear separation between individual political views and ASALH. The IRS forbids 501c3 organizations from supporting candidates and policial parties. We can deal with issues, not candidates and not parties.

Personal vs. Public: Your political beliefs are important, but keeping them separate from your ASALH involvement is vital.

  • Social Media: Avoid using ASALH symbols or affiliations when expressing your political opinions online. This includes the letters, logos, hashtags, and any reference to ASALH itself.
  • Public Appearances:Refrain from wearing ASALH attire or using ASALH affiliation at any political events, rallies, or demonstrations.

Remember: We are a diverse organization, and respecting individual beliefs goes hand-in-hand with upholding ASALH’s nonpartisan status.
