The Sankofa Celebration Closing Ceremony for the Mother Bethel AME–ASALH Freedom School marked a powerful conclusion to a week of learning, reflection, and cultural affirmation rooted in Black history and excellence. Held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at historic Mother Bethel AME Church, the program brought together students, families, scholars, artists, and community members to honor the enduring legacy of African American life and history.
The morning began with fellowship over breakfast, followed by keynote presentations and a closing ceremony featuring distinguished speakers Michael Coard, Esq., and Dr. Reynaldo Anderson. Their remarks emphasized historical truth, civic responsibility, cultural imagination, and the continued relevance of Sankofa—looking back to move forward.
The celebration concluded with a vibrant Sankofa Festival, showcasing Philadelphia’s cultural institutions, food, music, and guided tours of the Richard Allen Museum.
