The Department of History at the City College of New York is seeking a two-year Post Doctoral Fellow- Assistant Professor (non tenure-track) in nineteenth-century American History (ACLS Postdoctoral Fellow in U.S. History). The subfield is open, but the successful candidate will be expected to teach a regular sequence in the Civil War and Reconstruction. While serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow – Assistant Professor, the successful applicant will pursue an active scholarly agenda while teaching part-time (3 courses per year). The fellow will also receive research funds.
Assuming satisfactory performance after two years, the incumbent’s Assistant Professor line will be moved to tenure-track. In that role, the candidate will be expected to continue their scholarship, to assume a full teaching load, to recruit and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and to participate in departmental and divisional service.

Ph.D. degree in History or related field required at time of appointment. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
