Please join us for the first ASALH-IP Quarterly Lecture/Discussion Series: Langston Hughes: Adding to the Story. A Conversation with Deborah Hollis. It turns out that Langston Hughes had connections with people in Boulder, Colorado. He visited when he received an invitation from Colorado University Boulder English Professor Francis Wolle, and corresponded with a local poet, Florence Becker Lennon. Additionally, in 1951 he was recruited by Mary Elting to author the First Book of Negroes. Elting, a CU alumna and children’s author who may have met Hughes through their mutual membership in the League of American Writers. Deborah Hollis will explain her delight at finding a CU Boulder connection to Langston Hughes in the literary papers of Francis Wolle, Florence Becker Lennon and Franklin and Mary Elting Folsom.  Hollis is an associate professor in special collections and archives at the CU Boulder Libraries.
