The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) is a museum, research center, and publisher dedicated to the study and preservation of the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South region.
We are seeking a Reference Associate with exceptional archival/library science skills to assist researchers in sourcing and using our collections. Based in the Williams Research Center, this position provides research advice and direction in New Orleans-related subjects as well as facilitates rights and reproductions requests. The Reference Associate also provides research assistance for THNOC staff projects, exhibitions, and publications. Additionally, this position performs outreach to the public by presenting information about THNOC’s holdings and writing articles for THNOC publications.
The ideal candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts or related degree and a minimum of five years of related experience working in a museum, archives, or comparable position. The successful candidate must demonstrate knowledge of New Orleans and Louisiana history and have the ability to understand and become knowledgeable of THNOC holdings. Additionally, this position must understand copyright and intellectual property laws. The ideal candidate must have proven communication, customer service, and organizational skills as well as a proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn THNOC specific software. A Master’s degree in history, library science or a related degree is preferred.
This is a full-time position working Tuesdays-Saturdays.
