Qualifications: The SJSU Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program (housed in the Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences) is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Required: A Ph.D. in Women’s, Gender, and/or Sexuality Studies, LGBT Studies, Queer Studies or

related field with research focus on LGBT, Queer, Transgender, or Sexuality Studies; Ph.D. completion at the appointment start date; evidence of scholarly potential. Preferred: Experience teaching Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the undergraduate level; knowledge of curriculum development in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; administrative experience.

 

Applicants should demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

 

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, holding office hours, mentoring students, course development, and participation in department, college, and university activities. Scholarly and professional contributions are expected for tenure and promotion.

 

Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

 

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
