Jessie Redmon Fauset was a prolific writer, editor

Jessie Redmon Fauset was a prolific writer, editor, and educator who played a key role in the Harlem Renaissance, shaping the literary landscape of Black America in the early 20th century. As the literary editor of *The Crisis*, the NAACP's magazine, she nurtured and promoted the works of emerging Black writers such as Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Claude McKay. Fauset also authored four novels that explored the complexities of Black middle-class life, challenging stereotypes and expanding the scope of African American literature.

On September 9, 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhow

On September 9, 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Civil Rights Act of 1957 into law, marking a pivotal moment in the fight for equality and justice in the United States. As the first civil rights legislation passed by Congress since Reconstruction, the Act aimed to protect the voting rights of African Americans. It empowered the federal government to take legal action against those who attempted to prevent others from exercising their right to vote. Although the Act had limitations, it set the stage for more comprehensive civil rights laws in the years to come, including the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This legislation was a crucial step in the ongoing struggle for civil rights, reflecting the growing momentum of the civil rights movement during the 1950s.

Woodson, known as the "Father of Black History Month," established the Association for the Study of African American Life and History with a vision to ensure that the truth of African American history would be preserved and recognized.

For over 100 years, we've been dedicated to promoting, researching, and sharing the vital contributions of African Americans to our nation's story. Today, we continue Dr. Woodson's mission with renewed commitment and passion, amplifying the voices and stories that must be heard.

Despite being blocked initially, President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent federal troops to escort them. Even with protection, the students endured ongoing harassment. This pivotal moment in the Civil Rights Movement highlighted the fierce resistance to desegregation in the South.
