Job Summary

The Department of Humanities at Clayton State University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of African American History, starting January 3, 2022.

This position is an academic year appointment that reports to the Chair of the Department of Humanities. Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with comparable programs and public institutions. Located in the heart of the Southern Crescent of the Atlanta metropolitan area, Clayton State University, a Senior Unit of the University of System of Georgia, is nationally recognized as a leader in the use of information technology to transform teaching, learning, and other aspects of the collegiate experience. Responsibilities

  • Offer undergraduate and/or graduate courses according to specialty
  • Support African American Studies minor program
  • Teach U.S. history surveys
  • Engage in scholarly activity leading to presentation or publication
  • Participate in service to the Department, College, University, and Community

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in History with African American specialty
  • Successful college teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scholarly focus on twentieth-century US History
  • Evidence of scholarly performance, including publications
  • Experience teaching online courses
