Job Summary

The Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy at Augusta University seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of African American History. Appointment to begin August 2022. All periods and specializations are welcome, but interest in and experience with digital history preferred. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research. A PhD in History or a related field is required and should be conferred prior to appointment. The successful candidate will teach US History survey courses and upper-level courses in African American history. Standard duties for academic-year faculty include teaching three courses per semester, advising and mentoring students, maintaining an active research program on trajectory to national distinction, and providing service to the Department, College, and University.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned Ph.D. in History or related field at time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness with diverse student populations.


Teaching existing courses and crafting new courses in the field; holding office hours, providing timely grading and student feedback; adhering to all academic policies of the University; maintaining a high quality research program; and publication of peer-reviewed scholarship.

Conditions of Employment

All candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review. The final candidate will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s). Those with degree from a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation.


Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
