On Friday, June 13, 2025, the Center for African American Health at the Kansas University Medical Center hosted its 5th annual Juneteenth Celebration. The celebration included an indoor Wellness Fair from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Free health screenings, live demonstrations, community health resources, and a small local wellness marketplace were available. Supporting this endeavor was GKCBHSG member, Bernice Thomas,(2nd from left), who with others, hosted a table on behalf of the Uriel E. Owens Sickle Cell Disease Association of the Midwest. This organization provides information and awareness about sickle cell disease, advocates for the needs of persons with sickle cell disease, and supports research to find a cure.
After the community wellness fair, participants continued the celebration from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a DJ, live performances, food, family activities, free food truck passes, and more.
We are pleased to support the work of our institutional member, the Kansas University Medical Center Office of Impact & Belonging, and its affiliated departments.
