“Heroes of Montford Point: A Legacy of Triumph and Honor!”
To commemorate 2024 Veterans Day Observance, on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 12:00 p.m. ET., our guest speaker Dr. Anthony Cade, II – retired United States Marine and military historian – will lead an illuminating presentation supporting the remembrance of our Veterans for all time for their significant impact and inspiration to present generations.
The featured unsung heroes overcame the perils of combat in conflicts like World War II, the Korean War and challenges within their own ranks. By highlighting the stories of the Montford Point Marines, this program will offer profound educational and historical benefits for EPA staff to learn, get involved in, and explore ways to support military servicemembers who served with valor and the unmatched bravery of their sacrifices. Participants will gain deeper understanding of their pivotal role in shaping the USMC into a more inclusive force, and their lasting impact on American military history. The program aligns with our mission to honor veterans and educate those in the agency, fostering a greater appreciation for the sacrifices made to secure the freedoms we enjoy today.
Dr. Anthony J. Cade, II is a retired United States Marine and a military historian. He earned his doctorate from the George Washington University, and he is the author of over a dozen articles and blogs on various aspects of American military history. Additionally, he is the author of two books, with another planned for publication next year that is focused on the first Black regiments in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Dr. Cade is a member of the executive council for The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH®), and in conjunction with his service in the Marine Corps, a specialist in groups such as the Montford Point Marines. Dr. Cade will discuss the long process of achieving equality in the Marine Corps, the struggles some of the men faced while in service, and their legacy in the world’s greatest fighting force.
