Re: Mrs. Bessie Jackson’s 99th Birthday
301 Rhode Island Avenue NW

Dear Executive Director Sylvia Cyrus,
You are cordially invited to attend and/or send someone out to cover this event. The Bronx Branch of the Association for the Study of African American History cordially invites you to come out and celebrate the birthday of our New York State Director, Mrs. Bessie M. Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson will be 99 years old, and we know that you will want to be a part of this grand celebration! Mrs. Jackson will at 99, become a “nonagenarian”. A most appropriate spin on that title, for those of us who know her, is that she has “non-aged” out of activism, nor faith, nor brilliance.
Bessie M. Jackson is a history maker, having founded the Day Care Workers Union in the Bronx, established the Bronx Branch of ASALH, and spearheaded the campaign that led to legislation establishing the second Monday in July as Abolition Commemoration Day in the State of New York.
Attached please find a Journal Ad Form. We look forward to your attendance at this wonderful celebration. Please RSVP by calling 646-567-8148 Tables for 8-10 people are available as well as individual seating. The Journal Ad Deadline has been extended to February 18th, 2025.
Regards,
Evangeline Simmons, President
Bronx Branch of ASALH
Stacey Ellis, Secretary, ASALH
