Join the Philadelphia Heritage and PhilaMontco Branches of ASALH for the opening reception of the exhibit Voices of the Community: Local Black Preservation. Curated by community historians and activists, this exhibit explores the history, migration, and preservation of Black communities in Philadelphia and Lawnside, New Jersey. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. The exhibit will continue through September 26. On view will be a copy of the Negro Makers of History” first published in 1928 by The Associated Publishers, Inc., founded by Dr. Woodson. It was designed for students, particularly those attending segregated schools, and aimed to address the lack of African American history in educational curricula.
