King Day 2026 | The Children Shall Lead

Join the Reginald F. Lewis Museum to celebrate King Day 2026 through the eyes of youth activists from the Civil Rights Movement to present-day social movements. Program activities will include provoking conversations, film screenings, musical performances, and a host of family fun-filled activities.

These programs are inspired by Kid Zone, the museum’s newest interactive permanent exhibit solely dedicated to children and families.

Guest Presenters and Participants Include:

  • Linda Dorsey –  At age 9, Linda and other neighborhood youth attempted to gain access to Gwynn Oak Amusement Park several times in the early summer of 1963 with Maryland’s new Public Accommodation law. They were denied by the park’s owner, which eventually led to further protests at the Gwynn Oak Amusement Park later that summer.
  • Deborah Swedenberg Willis – As a child, Deborah participated in the 1960s protests at the Glen Echo Amusement Park in Washington, DC, which was later integrated in 1961.
  • The Frederick March for Justice Organizers (Isaiah Spencer, Amiyah Spencer, Alijah Gee, and Gabrael Moore) – In 2020, these youth activists quickly mobilized after George Floyd’s murder and organized the Frederick March for Justice, a significant local protest against police brutality in Frederick, MD.
