Savannah Technical College Students Partner with ASALH to Honor the Legacy of W.W. Law through Cemetery Restoration

Savannah, GA — Students from Savannah Technical College’s Historic Preservation program will participate in a meaningful community project to clean and restore the gravestones and coping of the Law family plot at Laurel Grove South Cemetery. The event will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at 2101 Kollock Street, Section OLD Lot #1248.

This hands-on preservation effort honors the legacy of Mr. Westley Wallace Law, a prominent Savannah civil rights leader, historian, and community organizer. The project is part of Savannah Tech’s Historic Preservation curriculum, emphasizing both technical skill and cultural stewardship.

During the event, members of the Savannah Yamacraw Branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH)—founded by Mr. Law himself—will join students to share stories and reflections on Savannah’s rich African American history. They will also offer personal insights into the lives of W.W. Law and Dr. Carter G. Woodson, deepening participants’ appreciation for their enduring contributions to education, equality, and preservation.
Participation in this event is voluntary and open to Savannah Technical College classmates and community members who wish to support this restoration initiative.
