The book traces the history of Fairfax, Virginia, of African American residents through vintage photographs, family histories and their genealogical research.
Fairfax City’s segregated communities, including schools, churches and cemetery are featured.
The book celebrates the lives of the ordinary men and women who had homes, farms, and businesses in Fairfax City and Fairfax County, Virginia including the history of the Fairfax Rosenwald School.
The book looks to minorities in Fairfax County including the building of the Little River Turnpike, the 1935 trial of designated African American jurors, and land for George Mason University.
