Executive Council Member Dr. Cheryl Renée Gooch will be a featured speaker at the National Civil War Museum (Harrisburg, PA) on February 16, 2019 at 1:00 pm. Based on her most recent book “Hinsonville’s Heroes: Black Civil War Soldiers of Chester County, Pennsylvania,” her presentation covers aspects of the lives and experiences of 18 men from the free black community “Hinsonville” (near Lincoln University, PA) who served as members of the United States Colored Troops, and their families’ efforts to ensure that they are remembered for their role in re-unifying this country and liberating 4 million Americans from slavery.
