DR. CLINT C. WILSON II
Biographical Sketch

Clint C. Wilson II, Ed.D. is a journalist, author and educator who served as Associate Dean and Chair of the Journalism Department in the Howard University School of Communications where he taught courses in journalism, mass communication and media studies.
He is a recipient of the Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism
from the University of Missouri and has lectured at academic symposia at colleges and
universities throughout the United States and abroad at Oxford University.
Wilson is a former NAACP Image Award nominee and has been a seminar leader at the American Press Institute.
Dr. Wilson is widely regarded among the nation’s foremost scholars of the Black
press. He has authored or co-authored eight books including “Black Journalists in Paradox,” “Minorities and Media,” “Racism, Sexism and the Media,” “A History of the Black Press,” “Whither the Black Press,” and “Lucille Bluford and the Kansas City Call.”
His professional journalism career includes work for various news
media organizations including the Associated Press, Los Angeles Times, The Washington
Post, St. Petersburg Times, USA Today.com and the Los Angeles Sentinel.
His scholarly work on the relationship between people of color and general
circulation media has been published in such periodicals as Journalism Educator,
Columbia Journalism Review, Quill and Change. His work has been cited in textbooks
and trade journals including Editor & Publisher and Advertising Age, among others.
At Howard University, he served as an elected officer of the Faculty Senate and
he is a three-time recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Member Award by the School of
Communications Student Council. He was faculty adviser to the campus chapter of the
National Association of Black Journalists.
He has also held faculty positions at the University of Southern California,
California State University, Los Angeles and Pepperdine University.
Wilson holds the A.A. degree in Journalism from Los Angeles City College, the
B.A. degree in journalism and public relations from California State University, Los
Angeles and the M.A. in journalism from the University of Southern California. He
earned the doctorate in higher education administration from USC.
In addition, he completed fellowships with the Freedom Forum Media Studies Center at Columbia University, the Poynter Institute for Media Studies in St. Petersburg, Florida and the
American Society of Newspaper Editors at the American Press Institute.
Dr. Wilson’s civic contributions include service as Chair of the Montgomery
County, Maryland Interagency Coordinating Board for Community Use of Public
Facilities. He is also active in several professional and service organizations including the
National Association of Black Journalists, the Association for Education in Journalism
and Mass Communication, Epsilon Boule of Sigma Pi Phi and Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Inc.
