GKCBHSG member, Mr. Lewis W. Diuguid, an award-winning journalist, author, and educator, will be inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame on August 14, 2026. The induction will take place at the NABJ 2026 Convention & Career Fair being held in Atlanta, Georgia, August 12-16, 2026.
Lewis Diuguid’s career reflects a commitment to ethical journalism, racial and multicultural equity, and community engagement, making him a respected figure in both the journalism profession and the African American community.
He worked as a journalist for more than 39 years for The Kansas City Star and is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism.
Lewis Diuguid is the author of A Teacher’s Cry: Expose the Truth About Education Today (2004) and Discovering the Real America: Toward a More Perfect Union (2007), Our Fathers: Making Black Men (2017), and Exploring Cuba: Erasing Fears Through Multicultural Education (2024). He is a founding member and treasurer of the Kansas City Association of Black Journalists.
Diuguid is the winner of many awards, including the 2000 Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism, the 2011 Local Journalist Award from the American Journalism Historians Association, the 2015 Angelo B. Henderson Community Service Award from the National Association of Black Journalists, and the 2017 Louis M. Lyons Award for Conscience and Integrity in Journalism from the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University.
