I have become aware that Metropolitan College of New York is looking for exceptional candidates to join its Board of Trustees. While such positions are typically filled by generating interest through word of mouth, I thought it might be helpful to also advertise this opportunity through the ASALH Network.

Metropolitan College of NY (MCNY) has a very distinguished and distinct history coming out of the civil rights era. It pioneered the field of para-professionals, training poor women to work in schools, and grew into a college shortly thereafter. It also pioneered a distinctive pedagogical approach it calls “Purpose-Centered Education.” The school continues to serve largely Black and Hispanic individuals who are returning to education later in life. The average student is 33 years old.

The trustee position is unpaid. The time commitment required is limited. Quarterly board meetings are in NYC but committee meetings are generally hybrid. A copy of the trustee’s responsibilities is attached. For additional information about Metropolitan College of NY, kindly click on the link above.
