The Louisville chapter of ASALH (the Association For the Study of African American Life and History) is pleased to announce that Dr. Craig Woodson will be the speaker at its zoom December meeting to celebrate the birthday of our founder Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the father of Black History studies. Dr. Craig Woodson will speak on the “Legacy of Dr. Carter G. Woodson for Today.” Craig Woodson is chairperson of the Cleveland chapter of ASALH and shares family connections with Carter G. Woodson as a member of the “white” side of the Woodson family. Dr. Craig Woodson is a scholar of African music and was part of the dedication of the Carter G. Woodson house in Washington, D.C. He holds a Ph.D. from UCLA in music with a specialization in ethnomusicology, music education and musical instrument technology with a special knowledge of African drumming. His recent work includes the formation of the Drums of Humanity to help people in areas recovering from war and natural disaster through drum and music therapies.
