On September 15, 1963, a bomb exploded at the 16th On September 15, 1963, a bomb exploded at the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, tragically killing four young girls—Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley—and injuring several others just before Sunday services. This horrific act of racial violence shocked the nation and intensified the civil rights movement, fueling widespread protests and calls for justice. Jessie Redmon Fauset was a prolific writer, editor Jessie Redmon Fauset was a prolific writer, editor, and educator who played a key role in the Harlem Renaissance, shaping the literary landscape of Black America in the early 20th century. As the literary editor of *The Crisis*, the NAACP's magazine, she nurtured and promoted the works of emerging Black writers such as Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Claude McKay. Fauset also authored four novels that explored the complexities of Black middle-class life, challenging stereotypes and expanding the scope of African American literature. On September 9, 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhow On September 9, 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Civil Rights Act of 1957 into law, marking a pivotal moment in the fight for equality and justice in the United States. As the first civil rights legislation passed by Congress since Reconstruction, the Act aimed to protect the voting rights of African Americans. It empowered the federal government to take legal action against those who attempted to prevent others from exercising their right to vote. Although the Act had limitations, it set the stage for more comprehensive civil rights laws in the years to come, including the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This legislation was a crucial step in the ongoing struggle for civil rights, reflecting the growing momentum of the civil rights movement during the 1950s. #ASALH #DIdYouKnow #CivilRightsActof1957

Woodson, known as the "Father of Black History Month," established the Association for the Study of African American Life and History with a vision to ensure that the truth of African American history would be preserved and recognized.
