Dr. Bertice Berry, author, lecturer and inspirational speaker brought two groundbreaking, stirring presentations by leading a discussion on storytelling and race among a diverse local audience in Savannah, GA. The Savannah Yamacraw Branch formed a partnership with The Learning Center of Senior Citizens, Inc., in Savannah on two evenings, August 18 and August 25, 2022. These two programs were the inaugural partnership events, which celebrated the branch’s local founders day in August.

During her lectures, Dr. Berry led the audience through pairings of storytellers and listeners, as a way of sharing stories and cultural experiences.

Dr. Berry is a renowned sociologist, author and educator who is known around the world for her work as an activist and a woman who overcame a great deal of adversities, stereotypes, and clichés.

Mrs. Carolyn Blackshear, branch president, welcomed the audience and presented a brief history of the founding of ASALH. The audience of Black and white participants lifted their voices in singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at the beginning of both programs.

Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Berry and The Learning Center, video of the two presentations are available for viewing for a period of two weeks only (through Monday, September12, 2022).
