
The Field of Firsts Foundation and College Park Aviation Museum would like to invite you to attend the Exhibition Preview Fundraiser for the upcoming new exhibition, Columbia Air Center – Determined to Fly. Set to open in fall of 2025, this exhibition is dedicated to the history of Columbia Air Center, the nation’s first licensed Black-owned and operated airfield. Operating from 1940-1962 in Croom, Prince George’s County, MD, airfield served the growing Black aviation community of the Washington, DC area.
The Exhibition Preview on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 2-4 pm, will showcase the almost completed exhibition and a VR experience from the Sankofa Mobile Museum. There will be light refreshments. The exhibition is set to open in the Fall of 2025 and was developed in collaboration with Air Center members and descendant families.
If you are attending the DC History Conference, the exhibition team will be tabling the Friday, April 4th DC History Network and the Saturday, April 5th DC History Showcase events.
